Freshsales vs. ContactHoney: When "Affordable" Is Still Too Expensive

Freshsales is often cited as the budget-friendly CRM for small business. Here's how its pricing and complexity compare to a genuinely flat-rate alternative.

Freshsales, part of the Freshworks suite, is frequently recommended as a budget-friendly CRM for small businesses. And relative to Salesforce or HubSpot Professional, it is more affordable. But "affordable compared to enterprise software" and "affordable for a small business" are two very different things.

Let's look at what Freshsales actually costs and what you get.

Freshsales Pricing

Freshsales offers a free tier with basic contact management and a few features, which is genuinely useful for very early-stage teams. After that:

  • Growth: $9/user/month (limited automation, basic reporting)
  • Pro: $39/user/month (full pipeline management, AI scoring, advanced workflows)
  • Enterprise: $59/user/month

A 10-person team on the Pro tier -- which is where most businesses land once they need real CRM functionality -- pays $390/month. That's nearly $4,700/year.

What Freshsales Does Well

The Freshsales interface is clean and well-designed. The AI-powered lead scoring at higher tiers is useful for teams with high lead volume. Email sequencing, phone integration, and the Freshworks ecosystem integration (for teams also using Freshdesk for support) are genuine strengths.

If you're running a dedicated inside sales team with high call volume and need built-in telephony, Freshsales is worth evaluating.

The Complexity Question

Freshsales is a full-featured sales platform. That means it comes with configuration overhead. Custom fields, workflow rules, sequences, AI configuration -- there's a meaningful setup investment before it delivers full value. For a small team without a CRM admin, that investment is often underestimated.

The ContactHoney Difference

ContactHoney was built on a different premise: that most small businesses don't need AI scoring, built-in telephony, or a 15-step onboarding process. They need contact management, email integration, a pipeline view, and mobile apps -- working reliably, at a price that doesn't scale with headcount.

At $19.95/month for up to 50 users, a 10-person team pays 95% less than Freshsales Pro. The features are fewer -- and that's intentional. Right-sized tools win by virtue of actually being used.

Who Should Consider Freshsales

Freshsales makes sense when you have a dedicated sales team, high lead volume, and need built-in telephony or deep Freshworks integration. It's a legitimate platform for that use case.

Who Should Consider ContactHoney

ContactHoney wins when the whole team needs CRM access (not just sales), when simplicity and adoption matter more than feature depth, and when flat pricing is a strategic advantage over per-seat math.

For most small businesses, that's the reality of their situation.
